We Wait (Aspettiamo)

English translation

We Wait

There are many roads
Crossroads and paths
All those questions
Lost with the goodbyes
Many are the times
That you use some phrases and then throw them in the wind
Just to catch us again
Without ever chasing us
Lost amid the people
Will these pages left blank
Ever have a different ending for us

We wait for the nonchalant glances
Of those who love quietly and we accept them
Not to fight alone
We wait for new promises
Made by those who've seen departures
And arrivals1
Not hurting us
Living in the present

Will these pages left blank
Ever have a sweeter taste for us?
Different for us

We wait for the nonchalant glances
Of those who love quietly and we accept them
Not to fight alone
We wait for new promises
Made by those who've seen departures
And arrivals1
Not hurting us
Living in the present

And if it's not an ending
What is the sense in risking now?
What is the sense in imagining
This unreal love
Between roses and chains
What can be seen
Is only your eyes moving away
And not feeling even closer
And not feeling even closer

Even closer
Even closer than those
Who never had a real truth
Closer than those who lost the words
And remain in silence
Closer than how we'll never be
We'll never be closer than we were
Closer than we were, it's no longer like this
It's no longer like this with us

Author's comments:

This was a tricky one! I had a couple of difficulties around here (specially in the 'Di chi ha visto partire / E poi tornare' lines). I translated some lines freely, though I tried to convey the original sense of the song. But that may not be great as I'm not an Italian fluent speaker. If you think this translation needs any correction or change, don't hesitate and let me know. / Thanks to Hampsicora for helping me with this translation.
