Portuguese language

Hello

I was wondering why there is only one option for portuguese. It could be nice to separate them into Portuguese (Portugal) and Portugues (Brazil).

It is a problem for me because when I choose to help someone's request and I find out that the music is from a portuguese singer. Then I prefer to not translate, once they are *different languages*.

We (brazilians and portugueses) communicate very well, but it just not worth translating something in these conditions.

I don't think it's necessary. There's no significant difference between European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese.

Hello,
I agree with you. Besides, there are a few differences between both portuguese, even though the mutual understanding exists.
I think (someone correct me if I'm mistaken) you can add a new language. But I don't know how.

I will try it.

It is still Portuguese, why don't you translate a song from a portuguese singer? It is your native, you understand it despite some minor differences..
But I tend to agree with Josemar on this matter...

If we think in that way, we would need to consider British English and American English as different languages and it makes no sense.

I don't speak Portuguese, but I heard that the differences between Brazilian and Portugal Portuguese are significantly bigger than e.g. those between the different Latin American Spanish dialects and the Spain Spanish dialects (which already are bigger than those between American and British English).

The reason why we don't have split categories for Portuguese yet is because no one has asked for it yet - which implies that it might not be necessary.
We also don't have split categories for most of the different Chinese languages, and it has taken a long time until we got split categories for different Arabic dialects, and those certainly differ more than the Portuguese versions.

In practice, the reading and understanding of a portuguese song is not integral, that's why I'm asking for split.

An example: http://lyricstranslate.com/en/request/kilo

I don't understand it enough to translate. I would request translation myself if I wanted to know what this song is about.

Edit: this is just a random song request I found quickly. There were songs that I could not understand almost anything.

This song isn't a good example, it has a lot of slang and it also has some typos.

We had a discussion about this before and most people agreed it's not necessary. The main difference between Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese from Portugal in my opinion is the pronounciation. For me it's hard to understand a person from Portugal speaking, being used to Brazilian Portuguese, but I can perfectly read for example books published in Portugal, there are only some words that are different, for example I remember the word "rapariga" used for "girl" instead of "menina"...
